All national health-care workers at our hospital received their training at our hospital, with the exception of the nurses. Traditionally, we have hired nursing graduates from nursing programs throughout the country. However, in recent years we have found that new hires require significant retraining before they are able to function at an adequate level for our hospital’s standards of care. In light of this situation, our team determined it was time to start our own nursing program. In January 2011, a Certificate of Nursing program was initiated; English, math, and computer were taught as “pre-nursing skills” up until mid-August. Out of those who took these initial courses, 16 students (equal number of male and female) were selected to begin the actual 3-year nursing program, which began in September. Pray for wisdom and strength as our teachers prepare class materials. Pray for the students.
